Tonight at the Revival Studio, I met with Bob before our weekly practice so we could record vocal tracks for Walking Bag Blues. We’ve got a new duo set up with our a condenser, producing a really rich sound, giving Bob more he can work with. Next tracks will be bass then drums - it’s really coming together beautifully! It has a soulful melody and lyrics that dig deep into the feeling of having had enough, situation’s wearing thin & you got your walking bag packed, not looking back.

Singing the Blues, let’s me create a little story line and paint a picture of relatable woes. Having been in dire situations, I can tap into the feeling of desperation and remorse. I am intimately acquainted with feeling stuck, fed up, worn out & exhausted. It’s times like those when music becomes so necessary & lyrics can be like lifelines getting you from one verse to the next, letting life come at you just one note at time. Like a kite string back to a steady hand music connects me back to a sense of Hope.
In addition to music, I’ve found one of the best antidotes for depression is gratitude. Counting blessings and giving thanks (even if it’s giving thanks as if it were so, that has potency too.) In all honesty I can say that at this exact moment, I’m beyond grateful for every moment leading up to this one. For all of the trials and tribulations, disappointments & set backs, victories and successes, triumphs and defeats. Like the notes in a musical score, each one has contributed to the Songs I sing today. Every thing is connected & I wouldn’t change a thing.
Today I’m thankful for routines & weekly rituals, for doors that close so others may open and for the reassurance that everything is working out in Divine Order with Perfect Timing.
What are you Thankful for?
