Wednesday Night Session - working on new song idea for "Snake"

Bob came up with the idea and the guitar parts for it a little bit ago. Some of the idea came from our logo's images, the Sun, Moon and Snake. Our Oscuridad video (the Dark Song) has moon references, Talk to God and Santa, Santa videos highlight the Sun, and now we'll have a tribute to the Snake represented by this new Chicago Blues style throwback tune. His vision is to create a super groovy vibe, laced with Jim Morrison inspired lyrics. That's where I come in. He starts me off with "I'm a snake, crawling in your World. I'm a snake, baby!" .....the rest is up to me.

What I love about working on songs with Bob, is how much creative freedom he allows me. He gives me inspiration, some direction and then just lets me loose. I get to write lyrics that are meaningful to me and combine them in ways that aren't questioned and that I don't have to defend. It's a real gift, just being able to pour my heart out into a song and not having to explain.

Some songs are rooted in personal heartache, others, like Let me Live, are more general - trying to capture a collective feeling. This song gets deep into the symbolism of a Snake, into our Fall from Grace and the portrayal of a creature that was once revered as a symbol of the Goddess, of our connection to Earth and all things Sacred. When my father became a Shaman he told me about the symbolism of the Snake & how we can shed our past, like they shed their skin - all at once. This song evokes something deep, earthy and familiar. It's still just taking shape, and I really like the direction that it's taking: it's a revival, a return, an eternal spiral upward.
